Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Moiseraela Goya told Parliament that no permanent teacher has resigned during 2013/14 following their transfer to Takatokwane Constituency andtemporary teachers are not transferable as such.
Mr Goya said that his ministry has introduced a system of promotion amongst officers who were already stationed within the constituency to avoid the situation where officers request re-direction following offers of promotion.
He said that teachers are benefiting from two days leave per annum to offset the time taken to travel home and are paid Remote Area Service Allowance (RASA) adding that although there are no resignation, teachers remain unhappy with conditions.
The assistant minister noted that the performance in Primary Schools in Takatokwane Constituency has improved over the past three years with 58 per cent of primary schools improving their performance last year over the previous years.
Takatokwane MP, Mr Ngaka Ngaka had asked the minister to state the number of teachers who have resigned after being transferred to Takatokwane constituency during 2013/14 and what major steps he will take to address this situation.
He also wanted to know whether incentives are bearing fruits in rural areas and how will the minister improve on that. He further asked how the situation affected performance especially in primary schools. ENDS
