Money allocated can be used where there is need

18 Feb 2015

Money specifically allocated to schools is sometimes redirected to more urgent and critical needs of the same schools or other schools, Assistant minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya told Parliament.

Mr Goya said the ministry has been operating under financial constraints and it has been necessary to prioritise needs.

He said this practice may effect some short term plans in schools but will not put them in debt because, it is a principle that the ministry communicate such movement of finances to all parties that are, or may be, affected by consequences thereof.

Mr Goya said schools are in consultation with the ministry, which is there to support and guide schools in the prudent use of allocated funds and also to assist with funds as need be.

Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked why money specifically allocated to schools is often taken out of the votes by the ministry without consulting the school authorities. Mr Mmolotsi also wanted to know whether the practice will not affect planning at these schools or put such schools in debt.  ENDS
