Ministry unaware of unused material in Tsetseng

16 Feb 2015

Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources is not aware of any customers who were advised to buy materials, which were subsequently not used at Tsetseng in the Takatokwane Constituency.

Infrastructure, science and technology minister, Mr Nonofo Molefhi said in Parliament that any individuals who claimed to be in possession of water connection materials should contact Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) with proof of payment for water connection and letters from the council that instructed and/or authorised them to purchase water connection materials so that they could be assisted accordingly.

He noted that as a standard rule, a customer was only advised to buy materials once their application had been approved and they had paid for the said connection.

Mr Molefhi, who was answering a question on behalf of Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, said subsequently, all those who had paid for water connection and had been advised to buy connection materials were connected.

The minister further said for those whose applications were left pending takeover, WUC connected them at no extra cost nor requested them to buy materials.

He said three months prior to the takeover by the WUC, the council advised all customers to stop buying water connection materials.

Takatokwane MP, Mr Ngaka Ngaka, had asked if the minister was aware that before water supply and reticulation in rural areas was handed over to the WUC, some residents at Tsetseng and Takatokwane constituency had already bought materials for water connection to their homes under the recommendation of the council water unit.

Mr Ngaka wanted to know what steps had government taken to refund those residents as their materials are no longer needed. ENDS
