Livestock exhibits a challenge

19 Mar 2013

Management of livestock exhibits presents challenges to most police stations throughout the country and these include inadequate storage, feeding and transportation facilities for livestock pre and during trials, Minister of Defence, Justice and Security has said.

Answering a question in Parliament on March 14, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse said the Shoshong Constituency has only one exhibit kraal at the Shoshong Police Station, adding that it was ideal and desirable to have such facility at every police station, but for financial constraints, this was not possible.

He further said exhibits seized in the Shoshong Constituency were taken to Shoshong Police Station to await completion of the relevant matters during which they were cared for until all cases pertaining to them were concluded.

“With the advent of Mobile Stock Theft Courts, this situation should ease off, as cases will be disposed off promptly and temporary holding facilities would suffice,” he said.

Shoshong MP, Mr Phillip Makgalemele had asked if the minister was aware that management of livestock exhibits presented a challenge to most police stations in the Shoshong constituency in terms of livestock, their feeding and transportation during trials.

He had also asked the minister to state acceptable standard levels in the management of livestock exhibits, and the level of adherence in the Shoshong constituency and at the national level.

MP Makgalemele had wanted to know time bound measures the minister would put in place aimed at improving the situation in the Shoshong constituency. ENDS
