Procurement office uses Ghanzi warehouse
10 Feb 2015
Parliament has been told that the Ghanzi depot warehouses of the Accountant General were built at a cost of P3 453 000 in 1990.
Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr Kenneth Matambo, said in response to a parliamentary question that the warehouses had been occupied by the procurement office of the Accountant General since 1990.
He, however, said following the decentralisation of the procurement function to line ministries in 2012, some of the warehouses had been temporarily allocated to various ministries and departments and had continuously been occupied since then.
The minister further noted that minor maintenance up to P500 000, such as painting, repairing of roof leakages, and door locks continued to be carried out, while the last such maintenance was carried out in 2008 at a cost of P118 682. He said in the meantime, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning would continue allocating available warehouses to Ministries on request.
The current occupants of the warehouses are Ghanzi Hospital Stores Unit, Food Relief Services of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Regional Education Office of Ministry of Education and Skills Development.
Ghanzi North MP, Mr Noah Salakae, had asked the minister to state the cost incurred in building the supplies department in Ghanzi and when last the said building had tenants. The MP had also wanted to know the cost of maintaining the buildings in its present state and the plans regarding tenancy of the buildings. ENDS
