Minister explains Kutamogoree land situation
05 Feb 2015
The Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele, has told Parliament that he is aware that since Kutamogoree was declared a village in 2000, residents have not been allocated fields in the northern part of the village due to the fact that the area is predominantly a communal grazing area with boreholes.
He said it was for this reason that fields were allocated in the south of the village. Mr Maele said some fields in the northern part of the village were not allocated by the land board.
To address the issue of land management for Kutamogoree, the minister said a land use plan for the village was prepared in 2004 and proposed that ploughing fields should only be allocated to the south of the village and that the area north of the village be reserved for communal grazing.
However, he said, this was rejected by the residents arguing that the area has always been mixed land use zone and should continue as such.
He said although implementation of the land use as approved by the district authorities is ongoing, Ngwato land board is currently in the process of consulting both the residents of Kutamogoree and other district authorities for consensus on the land use plan.
MP for Nata/ Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister if he is aware that since Kutamogoree was declared a village in 2000 the residents have never allocated or registered their fields especially in the northern part of the village as promised by the relevant authorities. ENDS
