Letlhakane hospital has five doctors

05 Feb 2015

The Letlhakane Hospital has 41 general nurses, 16 midwives, five nurses with other specialties and five doctors, the Assistant Minister of Health Dr Alfred Madigele has told Parliament.

Responding to a question, Dr Madigele said the average doctor – patient ratio was 1:45 per day and nurse – patient ratio was 1:40 per day for the hospital.

He said the laundry and central heating systems were functional although salty water in the region causes rusting in the pipes and leads to occasional breakdown hence rehabilitative maintenance was done to address the problem.

Dr Madigele said three ambulances have been stationed at the hospital. On staff accommodation, he said 48 members have been accommodated while 53 were on the waiting list.

The assistant minister said there were no plans to build a district hospital in the next financial year but in the next National Development Plan (NDP). He said he planned to visit all districts.

Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to state the number of nurses and doctors at Letlhakane hospital, the average patient ratio to each, status of the laundry and central water heating system, ambulance and the number of staff members with accommodation and those waiting allocation.

He further asked if there were any plans to build a district hospital in the next financial year or the next NDP and when the minister would address his constituents on the status of the hospital and related health issues in the area. ENDS
