Hospital accommodates patient of unknown nationality

05 Feb 2015

The Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele, is aware of an impaired person of unknown nationality who is accommodated at Ghanzi Primary Hospital.

Responding to a question in Parliament , Dr Madigele said the person, who could not talk nor write, was first admitted at the hospital in 2008 by the police after finding him loitering aimlessly in D’kar.

He was then referred to Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital as he was suspected of having mental illness but after five years of extensive assessment, he was eventually found to be of sound mind.

Dr Madigele said his stay at the Ghanzi hospital was decided by the Ghanzi District Development Committee as they considered it to be the safest place for him as there were no suitable alternative facilities in the country.

“The hospital is accommodating him whilst efforts are ongoing to trace his relatives within and outside the country. So far these efforts have been futile,” he said.  The Ghanzi North MP, Mr Noah Salakae had asked the minister if he was aware of a hearing-impaired person who has been given accommodation at the Ghanzi Primary Hospital whose nationality was unknown.

He also wanted to know when the person was first accommodated at the hospital and the conditions of his stay. ENDS
