21 Jan 2015
Residents of Satellite South in Francistown have been blamed for not obeying set regulations.
Donga deputy court president, Kgosi Tebogo Stephen said residents sold home brewed beer outside stipulated set times and as such had caused a disruption to the lives of the community.
Kgosi Stephen raised the concern when welcoming the MP for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy, at a kgotla meeting at Selepa on January 20.He noted that some of the residents did not bother to apply for licenses.
The Ward Development Committee Chairperson (WDC), Ms Modiredi Bannalothe, complained that the roads were on a bad state and requested them to be maintained. Ms Bannalothe furthermore requested culverts to address the issue of the flow of water during the rainy seasons.
She also requested that they be allocated open spaces in their area to utilise them and raise funds for developments. Ms Bannalothe noted that Ipelegeng programme was a good initiative and should employ more people.
One of the residents, Ms Neo Walter said there was an escalation of crime in the area, noting that they were being served by Kutlwano police, which she said was very far.
Another resident, Ms Neo Motswetla complained about taxi operators, who she said did not transport them to their respective areas due to the gravel road.
In response to concerns about damaged roads, the City of Francistown Principal Roads Engineer Mr Tlamelo Segootsane said all roads in Francistown were outdated.
He agreed that running storm water also destroyed roads, adding they were planning to have a storm water drainage system.
Mr Segootsane said the idea was to revamp all roads funds permitting and urged residents to stop disposing off garbage and other litter into culverts. ENDS
