Gunners Police XI share spoils

16 Dec 2014

The Gunners-Police XI game that was played at the Lobatse Sports Complex on Sunday (December 14)  failed to produce a winner as both teams failed to score.

Although the game of two halves did not live up to expectations, both teams seemed to enjoy patches of individual brilliance. Gunners had an upper hand in terms of ball possession in the first half but had nothing to show for it because they could not knit killer passes together to produce goals.

Most of the balls they tossed forward were rather speculative, particularly without their injured striker, Nsongamali Shabby, who was conspicuous by his absence. But after recess, Police XI came back strong and started launching lethal attacks through Betsho Pius who gave the home side a hard time in the middle of the park.

And credit should go to the Gunners goal minder Lame Tladinyane for keeping the Jungle Kings goal poachers, Ishmael Amponsah and Kawashu Makai at bay.

Tladinyane came in as a substitute after first choice keeper Dikago Wagarre had picked an injury, and the lad pulled the Gunners bacon out of fire twice with brilliant acrobatic saves and never looked back. The draw left Gunners on position four while Police are on position seven.

Meanwhile, Gunners coach Draglojovic Stanoljovic expressed unhappiness saying he was worried that the high profile game did not produce a winner.

He said if his charges had maintained the fighting spirit they exhibited during their game with Gaborone United, it should have been easy for them to walk over their opponents. However he said his eyes were fixed on the next encounter with BDF XI scheduled for this weekend.

On one hand, Junior Letlaamoreng of Police, said he had planned to contain Gunners first half with a view to attack later in the second half. However, he said the plan misfired because Phenyo Molefhe, who was pivotal to the plan, went out injured. ENDS
