Government departments top in whistleblowing

Of the 1 239 reports covering the period January 2014 to end of November, the proportion of official complaints or reports alleging corruption made by government departments is 30 per cent; 7 per cent for local government institutions and 2.5 per cent for Parastatal or Statutory Bodies, says Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Phillip Makgalemele.

Mr Makgalemele said when answering a question in Parliament that whistle blowing by employees of these institutions was 8.9 per cent for government departments, 8 per cent for Local Government Institutions and 1.1 per cent for Parastatals or Statutory Bodies, while 41 per cent was by individuals and companies.

MP for Selebi Phikwe West Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the Minister what proportion of complaints or reports alleging corruption to the DCEC were official complaints made by Government Departments, parastatals, statutory bodies, local government institutions, companies, private individuals and whistle blowing by employees on these institutions.
