Tshireletso urges parents to guide children

10 Dec 2014

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso has pleaded with parents to guide their children to become responsible citizens.

Speaking at St. John Apostolic Church’s centenary celebrations in Serowe on December 7, Ms Tshireletso said parents should stand up and teach their children especially young girls good morals.

St John Apostolic Church was celebrating 100 years of existence. She said government was aware of challenges of unemployment, poverty and moral decay, and it was taking the challenges seriously. Ms Tshireletso therefore pleaded with teenagers of St. John to uphold and live by the standards and values of the church.

She further expressed concern that teenagers had adopted infamous modern lifestyles, which contributed to a lot of school-drop-outs and expose them to HIV/AIDS infections and other health hazards. On that note, the assistant minister appealed to churches to ensure that they relied on the holy bible to teach children good social values.

On other issues, Ms Tshireletso said she was fascinated by the biography of the founder of St John Church, Ms Christina Nku, adding that God started talking to her at an early age and because she was truly chosen by God she was not defiled by the teenage-hood temptations.

She said she however, carried the mission with prayer and honor. Ms Tshireletso also encouraged women to up-hold Ms Nku’s esteem and integrity, adding that they would be developing and nurturing what she had already done and passing it to their children.

She said this would help in transforming today’s generation of young boys and girls into accountable and responsible citizens. ENDS
