Nation building needs collective efforts

08 Dec 2014

Collective introspection in all aspects of life is paramount to nation building as it reflects the areas, which need to be corrected.

Speaking at a kgotla meeting in Lehututu, Kgosi Kebapatile Montshiwa urged residents of Lehututu to evaluate their achievements and failures towards nation building as the year ends.

He said where there was failure, there would always be room for improvement therefore appropriate remedial measures should be applied. He observed that nation building should start at family level where children were taught norms and values of the society.

He added that it was the responsibility of parents to impart good moral conduct and make their homes favourable environments for child upbringing.

Kgosi Montshiwa called for unity amongst residents which he said was appreciated by Vision 2016 pillar of united and proud nation, adding that it was a way to build a good nation. He said Botswana was left with a year to achieve its vision; therefore it was imperative for residents to channel their efforts and resources to attain vision 2016.

On other issues, he encouraged residents to plough in large numbers even though kgalagadi experienced rainfall late. He further said Botswana is faced with a problem of food security.

However, he said the government is committed to remedy the situation by introduction of Intergraded Support programme for arable agriculture development(ISPAAD). He noted that it is the responsibility of residents to ensure that this country has enough food to meet the nation’s demand.

Through ISPAAD, he said the government pays drought power; provide seeds freely to farmers and those with unfenced ploughing fields should applied for cluster fencing. ‘’ISPAAD is fruitful as you always see some of residents selling their farming produce to primary schools during harvesting period,’’ he said.

He further advice residents to celebrate festive season with extra consciousness because many social ills occurs mostly during that time.

He said police statistics shows high number of deaths related to car accidents, consumption of alcohol, rape and other crimes with frequent occurrence during festive season. ENDS
