Christmas comes early for Boyei pupils

Sudents with hearing impairment at Boyei Primary School in Maun have received Christmas gifts worth P10 000 from Lions Club in partnership with First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB) staff and Okavango International School recently.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ms Frances Palmer of Maun Lions Club said their motto was to save the community they lived in and as such they decided to offer gifts to the 31 students at Boyei as a sign of love towards the disadvantaged in the society.
She said the gifts comprised of school shoes and clothes that the students would wear during Christmas, adding that their relationship with the school would continue for years.
Ms Palmer said Lions Club was made up of four countries, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe with the mission of saving their communities, districts, countries and the region they lived in.
She said they were going to form a Leo Club in the Boyei Primary to represent the school in the community in order to teach those children the spirit of saving others in their communities.
Ms Palmer said they have other clubs in Botswana and around the region, adding that the students would have that privilege to visit other clubs in and outside Botswana to learn how other clubs were run.
She said they had invited 69 Leos to be hosted in Maun for their council meeting and amongst these, 53 are from Zimbabwe, Malawi has three, Zambia has two and Botswana has 11.
Ms Palmer said the main aim of the meeting was to bring all Leos together to teach and groom them in the service of saving the nation, adding that they would donate some gifts to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital.
“As a club, we strive to serve and giving is our concern as it is good to give than to receive,” she said.
Ms Palmer encouraged Leo Clubs to have the heart of giving and at the same time serve without hoping for a reward. “Our nation is at a time when it needs help and is the time for a club such as ours to show them love and care when they need us most,” said Ms Palmer. ENDS
