Batshu encourages church to be calm

07 Dec 2014

The Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu has encouraged Guta Ra Mwari (GRM) church to be calm when confronting their challenges.

Speaking at the Guta Ra Mwari 50th anniversary celebration recently at Tati Town kgotla, Minister Batshu congratulated the church for the well-deserved celebration.

He said the challenge of deteriorating moral values in the society at large was a concern for the government and nation alike, therefore dealing with such challenges was a priority item in the national agenda. Mr Batshu mentioned that churches must be exemplary so as to create role models and inspire confidence in the institution.

Furthermore, he implored the church members to continue upholding the 2016 vision pillar of ‘a compassionate, just and caring nation,’ by extending a helping hand to the needy orphans and widows.

He urged them to continue playing their role of ensuring their participation in social responsibility activities. Mr Batshu said 50 years of existence, growth and prosperity was a unique achievement, noting that during their progression to the current state, they met a lot of challenges and they seemed to have triumphed over them.

The Minister stated that their celebration was an opportunity for them to share issues of common interest, which would be of benefit to the country.

Furthermore, Minister Batshu said some of the issues would help them to manage churches better under the Societies Act, and would also be helpful in strengthening their objectives as a church. “I am delighted to recognise that your church is one of those that submit annual returns as prescribed by the law,” he noted.

For his part the President of Customary Court of Appeal in the North, Mr Christopher Masunga appreciated the growing of the church since its arrival in North-East.

He encouraged GRM church members to unite, noting that breaking down of many churches in Botswana was worrisome. ENDS
