President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has received hampers worth P1.4 million from Choppies Superstores.
The items will be shared among members of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and the police who will be on duty during the festive season as well as patients admitted in hospitals around the country.
Receiving the hampers on Friday, November 5, President Khama said the generosity that Choppies Superstores had shown in the past six years towards the BDF and Botswana Police Service was commendable.
He also noted that Choppies had been a leader in showing compassion and care to the less privileged members of the community. The President indicated that apart from hampers, Choppies had also constructed clinics for communities in several parts of the country as well as housing for destitute persons .
Again, he said although the country had been going through tough economic times, Choppies had promised to continue supporting government in its efforts to improve the lives of Batswana.
“I urge Batswana and other different organisations to also think of the disadvantaged, children and patients at hospitals over this period of giving and follow your good example and give to Batswana,” he said.
Comissioner of Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe said the Christmas hampers would be given to those who will be deployed on various assignments during the festive season.
Choppies Superstores chief executive officer, Mr Ramachandran Ottapah said his organisation was humbled to have been associated with the Lady Khama Charitable Organisation for over six years. ENDS
