Goya wants government to revive Morupule A

07 Dec 2014

Member of Parliament for Palapye, Mr Moiseraele Goya, has asked government to resuscitate and expand  Morupule A to augment the electricity supply from Morupule B.

Responding to the State-of-the-Nation Address on December 4, Mr Goya said concentration had now shifted to Morupule B and not much was said about the Morupule A, which he said was capacitated to produce electricity as well.

He further called for the provision of storm water drainage and the improvement of internal roads in Palapye. He said the Lerala-Maunatlala should have a sub-district to ease the burden held by the Palapye sub-district to improve the performance of the sub-district.

Mr Goya further said there were plans for government to improve education in what he termed schools improvement programme that included vocational facilities. He said the programme would take into account infrastructure provision and a wide array of issues pertaining to under performance by students.

He said Palapye had grown enough to have another hospital as the current one was overwhelmed; he also called for an integrated sports facility. Mr Goya also commended the government for the ISPAAD programme which he said had made a huge impact for rural communities economically.

He further condemned the opposition MPs for criticising the BDP without offering better solutions to problems such as unemployment. MP for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy said he was thankful of the beneficiaries of the poverty eradication programme in his constituency.

He also called for the construction of a district hospital in Francistown to ease congestion at the Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital emanating from the fact that there was no district hospital.

He said Nyangabgwe did not have specialists for orthopaedics and eyes; hence referrals to Mahalapye and Marina were also overwhelming calling for decentralisation of services.

Mr Billy said Francistown should be given a status of a city and be provided with all city amenities such as the provision of street lights and augmentation of security services offered by the Botswana police.

“Francistown is crime infested and full of Zimbabwean immigrants who perpetuate the situation and this eleventh Parliament should come up with strategies to assist the people of Francistown,” he said.

He said vendors in Tati East and north of the town were living in fear as they were persistently harassed by pit-pocketers to an extent of beating them up.

He further called for the empowerment of Batswana contractors to possess supervision and management skills of their contracts in order to do their projects satisfactorily and deliver them on time so that they may benefit from the economy of their country. ENDS
