Tutume Hospital to be improved

04 Dec 2014

The construction of an additional 37-bed maternity ward at the Tutume Primary Hospital is planned for November 2015, the Assistant Minister of Health Dr Alfred Madigele has said.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Dr Madigele said project scooping would start in January 2015 and that the necessary tender preparations and awarding were expected to take 10 months.

The Assistant Minister said plans to open 24 hour services at Mathangwane and Sebina clinics were still in place and would be introduced once the necessary staffing was available.

He said his ministry did not have plans to establish an emergency call centre at Mathangwane clinic as it was assisted by the Francistown District Health Management Team (DHMT).

Dr Madigele said a second nurse was posted to Natale Clinic and that she reported for duty on November 14, 2014.

Shashe West MP Fidelis Molao had asked the Minister of Health to state the time frame for the construction of an additional ward at Tutume Primary Hospital to alleviate the current acute congestion at the hospital as announced by His Excellency the President recently when addressing Kgotla meetings in the area.

He had also asked when the long promised operationalisation of 24-hour clinic services for both the Sebina and Mathangwane clinics would be effected including the starting of an emergency ambulance service call centre for the Mathangwane clinic.

MP Molao had also asked whether the Natale Clinic would have a second nurse posted to it in the near future to assist the only one available currently. ENDS
