Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraela Goya, says his ministry is aware of the acute water shortage at Good Hope Senior Secondary School, and is working hard to normalise the situation.

Answering a question in Parliament from MP for Good Hope-Mabule, Mr James Mathokgwane, the assistant minister said the ministry's remedial plans were in place to address the problem.

Mr Goya said the plan, which included a task force made up of Water Utilities Corporation, Department of Buildings and Electrical Services, Southern Region and School Management, had been formed to identify the cause of water shortages and make recommendations and effect necessary interventions as soon as possible.

He said two resident bowsers were always on standby in the school to address challenges whenever the need arose, adding that the audit team from the Department of Buildings and Electrical Services was sent to investigate the infrastructural problem at Good Hope Senior Secondary School last month (October).

Mr Goya said, to date a company named Modern UTS was awarded a contract on November 18 and given two weeks to mobilise and finish work by the first quarter of next year.

He said there was a general water problem in Goodhope village and that the reticulation of water to the school would always remain a challenge until a permanent solution was found.

MP for Goodhope-Mabule Mr James Mathokgwane had asked the minister if he was aware of the adverse water shortage at Goodhope Senior Secondary School and if so what remedial plans were in place to address the problem, and to state the anticipated time frame to address this situation. ENDS
