Sargam Trust donates to Kedikilwe trust

Sargam Trust on November 22 put up a music show in honour of the former vice president, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe for his remarkable contribution to development of this country.

The trust,  which comprises of great music minds, also donated P100 000 towards Dr Kedikilwe’s his newly established trust. The Elizabeth & Ponatshego Kedikilwe Early Childhood Development Trust is a family venture.

Dr Kedikilwe explained that the trust was devoted to furthering efforts of basic education especially where levels of education differed from one place to the other in essence targeting places in rural areas.

He said the global situation posed challenges of competition, and that young people needed exposure done in the right environment for them to cope with challenges presented by the digital age.

The former vice president stated that issues of human capital development as well as infrastructural development would be the core mandate of the family trust fund to ensure an infusive determination to develop “our people to the highest levels.”

Furthermore, he said, the trust would usher in a platform to tap talent and make sure that talent would not be held back. “At the end, all this will make this country to be at par with the rest of the world,” he said.

For his part, chairperson of Sargam Trust, Mr Manhar Mooney said the group had developed into a professional music group side by side to develop Indian music and talent alongside fundraising for deserving charities locally.

He also said the group chose to raise funds for the former Vice President’s trust because of its noble ideals of uplifting the standard of education in rural areas where there are no facilities. “It is truly an honourable venture,” he said. 

Mr Mooney said they would continue raising funds for charities at least once a year. He highlighted that they have enlisted a number of Batswana musicians in their group as they believe that music is one language that transcends cultures and all barriers. 

Established 21 years ago as an amateur music group doing Bollywood performances, Sargam Trust has developed into a professional music group. 

The group comprises three generations of artists who come from various professional backgrounds. So far, the group has assisted more than 25 local charities to the tune of over P3 million. 

They have again contributed to the President’s housing appeal building at least two houses for the less privileged.

The Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi and some cabinet ministers also graced the event. ENDS
