Letsogo le le Abang charity club has donated food hampers and toiletries to three needy people in Madikwe ward in Tutume.
Handing over the hampers, the chairperson of the club, Ms Tumelo Mbakile said the club which was formed in 2008 is made up of eight teachers of McConnell College. She said the main aim of the club is to assist all those in need, especially students in the school through their monthly P50 contributions.
Ms Mbakile said they started assisting students by buying them uniform and later decided to extend a helping hand to the community.
In November 2013, they donated clothes to a family in Madikwe ward, bought a jersey for one student in the school and also assisted other students with transport money to travel back home for the school holidays. This year, they contacted Madikwe social worker to identify three needy people they could assist.
Ms Mbakile said that they chose the ward because it is where the school is located. She thanked her team for the commitment geared towards achieving the intended goals. One of the beneficiaries, Ms Emelly Simon said that she was happy to receive the donation, as there are many needy people in the community who also need such assistance.
The mother of 10 children said she was not working and finding it hard to support her family, but was grateful for the help. She could not hide her excitement as she started singing a thanksgiving song, saying that her prayers had been answered.
Ms Simon encouraged the club members to continue assisting other needy people in the community and said that through the grace of God, all their intended goals would be achieved. Giving a vote of thanks, the Councillor for Tutume North, Mr Ishmael Mokgethi said what the club did showed love and care for others.
He encouraged the teachers to continue with the good spirit of giving back to the community.
He described the teachers as assets to the community they serve and encouraged others to join the club, noting that the club’s aims were in line with one of the national 2016 Vision pillars of being a compassionate and caring nation. ENDS
