Speaking during the 12th Joint Graduation Ceremony for brigades and technical colleges in Mahalapye on Friday November 7, Germany Ambassador to Botswana, Mr Rolf Ulrich stated that vocational training and education was important in a modern economy.
He said vocational training should be the focal point of the country for achieving participation in society and to assist young people to enter the labour market. He said the transition on a global level from mass production to an innovative driven economy entails an increased need for a well trained workforce in developing countries.
He pointed out that in as much as any other country needs medical doctors, engineers, lawyers (white colour jobs) well trained workers in the technical and service trades form the backbone of a well-oiled economy.
