Botswana Sports Volunteer Movement for Lobatse region on recently donated hampers and toiletries to patients at Athlone Hospital.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony, chairperson of Botswana sports volunteers Movement, Segolame Ramotlhwa said sport volunteers movement, was a member of the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) adding that social responsibility was one of their organisational commitments.

Ramothwa said the club might be from BNSC, but the membership was extended to all citizens who were keen on partaking in social responsibility activities. He encouraged club members to keep on doing needs assessment across the region in order to find other resources to uphold the lives of the underprivileged.

For his part, the deputy district commissioner, Ernest Phiri commended the Lobatse Sport Volunteer Movement (LSVM) for considering the patients in their area before extending their helping hand to others. “Charity begins at home,” he said.

He said LSVM has shown love to the patients, and the gifts may cheer them with the full knowledge that there are some people outside there, who think about them even if they are hospitalised.

He said the gifts will help them recuperate quickly.

Phiri urged the LSVM members to invite the youth to the club as this will help them to desist from engaging in social ills such as alcohol and substance abuse.

Athlone hospital superintendent, Boipelo Lecoge has applauded LSVM for their good gesture by donating to the patients.

“You have shown kindness and generosity, by extending a helping hand to the less privileged,” she said.

She applauded them for embracing Vision 2016 pillar of being a compassionate just, caring nation.

Lecoge said donations will prompt all individual and groups to extend a helping hand to others particularly to those who are less fortunate. ENDS
