Tsabong school holds reception class graduation

The management and parents of Tsabong Primary School recently held the school’s first reception class graduation ceremony for 77 students.

Since introduction of the reception class programme, Tsabong primary was the first and only school in Kgalagadi south offering this special programme. The ceremony was combined with the school’s prize giving.

The acting branch manager of Tsabong Local Enterprenuership Authority, Mr Golebaone Molefe said the introduction of this programme potrayed great strides that the government was making in improving education in Botswana.

When giving a key note address at this ceremony, Molefe stated that apart from improving education, this programme would also deposit a betterment in the lives of Batswana as education was the cornerstone of sustainable development.

He urged parents to support the primary school reception classes, citing that they are fundamental in laying an excellent academic foundation. 

Mr Molefe emphasized that parents must ensure that they meet their children’s academic needs, such as full school uniform, stationery and fees as this gives them confidence and self-esteem that they can do well and also motivates them to perform outstandingly.

Molefe highlighted that education plays an essential role in the economy of the country and nothing surpasses it, therefore education should be every students’ priority.

The acting branch manager of LEA, revealed that in most cases unemployed people are those who have never attended school or did not do well academically.

He added that illiteracy inflicts poverty therefore students should take their education seriously as it will augment them to stretch a helping in eradicating abject poverty which is afflicting Batswana. 

Furthermore Molefe congradulated the graduates for their perseverance and encouraged them to continue working hard. 

Molefe also commended the management of the school for having organized the ceremony, citing that a ceremony of this kind is a token of appreciation to achievers and also motivates and instills the spirit of hard working. 

In addition, he applauded the teachers for their good work of going an extra mile to enhance the literacy rate.

The headmaster of this school Ms Diana Basotli lamented about the lack of resources that her school is challenged by,she therefore called for all stake holders to partake in the Adopt-A-School initiative. Ms Basotli also stated that their reception classes will increase from two to three next year.

Basotli also addressed parents on the need for a cultural home in the school,pleading with them to all contribute in the construction of the cultural home and with multi cultural artifacts which will be displayed in this home.

She said the establishment of this home will help in promoting and preserving culture.

The shool head also bemoaned wreckless driving near the school and made an appeal to the department of Roads to help mount road signs to warn drivers about the school which is situated near the main road.

She also proposed for speed humps,explaining that the lower standard pupils who are immature are at risk of being hit by the vehicles that are mostly driven at break neck speed.

Even though her school is challenged by various problems,Ms Basotli revealed that her school has achievements that can be boasted about.

She stated that her school has been awarded for being the most improving school in the Kgalagadi region in 2013,and for scooping position one in drama competition. Ends
