Notwane football club visited Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital Paediatric ward prior to their weekend game with Sankoyo Bush Bucks.
Notwane management and supporters interacted with the children and donated toys to cheer them up, but the players could not make it as they were preparing for the game.
Speaking at the event, Notwane head of marketing and communications, Podi Mooki, said their team wanted to give a chance to the sick children and their mothers since they would not be able to see the team at the Maun Sports Complex.
Mooki said Notwane FC was a loving team, which wished for a healthy nation and children. The hospital’s Senior Nursing Officer, Kamogelo Thagame said pneumonia, diarrhea and malnutrition were the common ailments that affected children in the Ngamiland district.
He however said diarrhea, which traumatised the district and led to cases of deaths in the past years was under control this year since there were no registered deaths so far .
The game stated that the Paediatric ward has 48 beds, 28 for medical conditions and 20 for surgical conditions and the hospital caters for patients in and outside Ngamiland.
He said the Paediatric ward was normally busy with between 20 and 30 patients daily, but was better as only 13 patients were admitted during the Notwane FC visit. Ends
