Gunners on come back mission
29 Sep 2014
Extension Gunners have stunned the stubborn Nico United FC 1-0 through Topo Piet’s header to continue their good run in a beMOBILE Premier League fixture recently.
After losing two opening fixtures to Mochudi Centre Chiefs and BR Highlanders, the Peleng giants seem to have put their house in order and have since registered four consecutive wins in the elite league this season.
Both teams started the game with an air of caution and failed to create clear cut scoring opportunities in the first half.
Nico United on the one hand balanced the urge to throw everything they had at Gunners, with the need to take baby steps to recover from the last two games they had lost prior to the clash.
Gunners also had to balance the excitement of a recent winning streak with tact especially without the midfield maestro Monageng Thaele, who was somewhat conspicuous by his absence.
However, after recess, Gunners found a bit of rhythm and got the better of their opponents, came back with renewed zeal and scored from a corner.
The introduction of Nsongamali Shabby for Pako Modikwa who had pulled a hamstring also provided impetus and urgency for Gunners in front of goal.
Nevertheless, Nico United doggedly pushed forward in numbers with the view to pull an equaliser but lady luck was not on their side as more often than not their strikes either went across the mouth of goal or outside the foot finish of the attackers.
In a post-match interview, United coach Kenneth Mogae was happy that his charges played their hearts out despite having picked some injuries in the game. Mogae however promised to go back to the drawing board to pick up the pieces.
Gunners coach Dragojlo Stanojlovic was however worried that his boys did not convert chances they had created. He was nonetheless happy that his team was on the rise. ENDS
