BNPC embarks on good work ethic campaign

25 Sep 2014

The Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) has embarked on a good work ethic campaign following several reports on poor work ethic prevalent in the country.

The three-year work ethic project has three critical components, which included training, targeted interventions and national media campaign.

Addressing members of the media, BNPC productivity and quality programme manager, Mr Teedzani Majaule said through the project, BNPC hoped to change the mind-sets of Batswana to create a culture of good work ethic that was embraced and lived, so it could thrive in many.

Mr Majaule said the main objective of the campaign was to encourage and promote increased productivity in the workplace, and competitiveness of the nation.

Traits of good work ethic, he said include dependability, honesty and integrity, accountability, time consciousness and attitude among others.

Mr Majaule explained that according to the Global Competitiveness Report, an annual publication of the World Economic Forum, work ethic among the national workforce had been a number one problem in Botswana.

He, however said as the national facilitator of productivity in Botswana, the BNPC continued to engage all relevant stakeholders in government, business, trade unions, civil society and the nation at large to promote the culture of good work ethic in the country.

“To date, the BNPC has capacitated and trained officers in the public service on work ethic, who are now cascading the project to other employees in their respective ministries and departments.” ENDS
