Gumare-Tubu North councillor, Mpoke Karapo has told BOPA in an interview recently that the project to electrify Tubu village in the Okavango area is almost complete safe for very connections around the village.
“Electricity is already available at the local primary school,” he said happily, applauding the government for such an initiative to improve the lives of its people.
As government continued developing and taking services to the people, there is no doubt that their living standards improve, said Cllr Karapo, adding that electricity would come with technologies that will promote education and communication, adding that.
A village elder, Ms Matakatlala Xhao said electricity would relieve them from the cheap unreliable solar energy they had been using.
She said she would soon apply for connection at Botswana Power Corporation and encouraged fellow residents to reserve their solar energy systems to use as electricity substitute during power cuts.
The village headman of records, Kgosi Keitseng Motshidiemang said investors with better business opportunities would be attracted to the village thereby creating employment in the village.
“For a long time, locals have been relying on subsistence farming and government programmes as source of employment. ENDS
