Chobe landboard on mission to improve services
17 Sep 2014
Chobe land board has said that it is willing to improve its services to members of the public.
The pledge was made during a board meeting held on Monday, September 15.
The acting chairman, Mr Montle Magosi said meetings are held so as to improve the services they give to their clients.
“I would like to advise the staff together with the board members that the constitution of this country provides that administrative action must be lawful,” he said.
Mr Magosi reminded them that the ground breaking of a huge project, the Kazungula Bridge has been done and this called for every stake holder to ensure that this project becomes a success.
On other issues, he said that the land board already is facing a high demand for land specifically because of the Kazungula Bridge.
He stated that they are aware that there are still issues that still remain unsettled.
The Kachikau industrial plot layout, Chobe West masimo layout and Parakarungu/ Mabozu meraka, he said, are issues that need to be attended to.
A board member, Johane Chenjelwa said that as a board members they are supposed to attend Kgotla meetings and address the concerns of the public instead of waiting for the chairperson to do so.
He said that their performance has declined compared with other land boards and said this called for them to improve.
“We cannot be part of a losing team,” he said. He complained that the ground breaking took place without their knowledge, yet they are expected to allocate land for the project.
Mr Martin Nzehengwa, the secretary for Chobe land board said that they have to work with other departments.
He stated that they have to work with the department of wildlife since most of their work is carried out in the veld.
He said that one of their employees survived death as he was attacked by a buffalo and recently resumed work.
He also said that after performance reviewing feedback must come back to them so that they can improve where necessary.
The acting chairman also cautioned the public to be aware of some individuals who call their customers claiming to be working for Chobe land board promising to allocate them plots.
He said these people demand that customers e-wallet them a certain amount of money for them to speed up their land allocation process.
The landboard, he said, had nothing to do with those people and warned the public not to give their hard earned cash to criminals. ENDS
