Aim for the stars - BR official

Educators in Mahalapye Sub-district have been urged to aim high to achieve good results.

Speaking during the Mahalapye sub-regional educational excellence awards on September 12, the director of human capital at Botswana Railways, Mr Letlhagonolo Bantsi said education contributed towards the concept of knowledge society and that it enhanced human capital development. 


He therefore appealed to educators and students to dream for higher academic results saying as such they would be developed in every aspect of life.


The ceremony was to award students, educators, regional schools for best performance.
 Poloka Primary School scooped position one for best performing school, while Maape Primary got for quality pass rate of Grade A and B in the Primary Leaving School Examination 2013.

Pekenene Secondary school got for best performing Junior School (JC).


Among the awarded students, Moemedi Lekganyane (former) of Frederick Maherero Primary School scooped first prize for best performing student, Michelle Modibane got the overall best student for JC and Batlaleng Tlale got the best for the Central Regional in Senior School.


Best performing subject teachers and lecturers also got certificate awards.
Mr Bantsi congratulated the learners for their input and urged them to strive for best results adding that they should recognise the aptitude and potential in them to become better persons in the society.


In continuing to strive for high performance, Mr Bantsi said students would reap the benefits of being rewarded through high level sponsorship to attain the best academic excellence courtesy of Botswana government.


The theme of the day was “towards an informed and educated nation through academic and vocational excellence”. 
Regarding Botswana Railways, he said BR has been taking part in promoting educational excellence.


He said BR has supported fields of study in Mathematics, Science and the ongoing Madiba Setswana Essay competition.


He stated that the BR recognition and reward excellence in education does not only exist in Mahalapye, but has over the years been extended to the greater part of the region including Shoshong and other parts in Botswana.


He pointed out that since 2007, BR has been sponsoring four (4) apprentices who have completed second year in National Craft Certificate especially to students attached to BR and are in need of such sponsor.


In his welcoming remarks, the deputy Mahalapye village chief, Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe hailed teachers for the good work.


Kgosi Tshipe said “teaching is a profession that creates all professions” and therefore stated that they are the ones who made Botswana what it is today.


He hailed them for contributing positively to the development of the country.


The ceremony was graced by the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Botlogile Tshireletso, and former Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West Bernard Bolele, the Regional Director Operations for Central region Molebi Morolong. Ends
