School of tennis pockets medals

The Francistown School of Tennis players recently returned from successful tournaments in both South Africa and Zimbabwe with a medal haul after impressive performances from its young players.

Michael Hove, Lesedi Raguin, Monthati Mophuting, Naledi and Ntungamili Raguin won a total of nine titles in the three tournaments that they participated in.

During the North West University Pukke Riaan Venter Tennis Academy mini-series tournament in Potchefstroom, two Francistown School of Tennis players took part and Naledi got a silver medal in the 10 and under (Green Balls) girls’ tournament while Lesedi finished fifth in his category.

Potchefstroom is the home of the High Performance Institute, a world class multi-sport training structure. 

Immediately after returning from South Africa, the club also participated in the Bulawayo Junior Open where five players competed with their counterparts for honours.

 In the mini tennis tournament (Red balls), Ntungamili emerged victorious, Monthati won the under 10 (Orange balls) while Lesedi triumphed in the under 10 (Green balls). One of the players from the club, Naledi forfeited the singles tournament due to illness but shone on the last day of the tournament by winning the under 10 doubles where she was paired with Munashe Bera.

In addition, Lesedi also added to the medal haul by grabbing the under 12 doubles with Xinfei Xu in the boys category.

The club also participated in the Taryn Leigh De Souza Memorial Tournament also in Bulawayo where Ntungamili won the mini tennis tournament (Red balls), Michael Hove was runner up under 10 (Orange balls) boys, Naledi won the under 10 (Green balls) girls and Lesedi was runner up in the under 12 boys.

 The director of the Francistown School of Tennis, Dominique Raguin explained that the tournaments showed that there was a lot of promise from the young players at the club. ENDS
