Ecco succumb to Motlakase

26 Aug 2014

Ecco City Greens once again lost a game they could have won.

The Francistown-based team had a 2-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining, but they let  Motlakase choke them and score three quick goals to steal victory at the Selebi Phikwe stadium on August 24.

Ecco lost another league game against BMC after leading 2-0 for most of the game. During the Ecco and Motlakase encounter, the former was the first to score in the first half with a goal from Apoga Dekesha.

Both teams went to recess with Ecco leading 1-0. In the second half, Ecco scored again when Kebatho Omaatla managed to score a goal to make a 2-0 lead for the Francistowners

However, the game plan changed and Motlakase came from behind and took over the game. Emmanuel George was the first to score for the Palapye side. Pelaelo Hlabano scored the equaliser for his side and just before the final whistle, Motlakase were given a penalty which Lapologang Motlogi tucked away neatly to make it 3-2 for Motlakase Power Dynamos.

In an interview, Ecco’s coach Oupa Kowa expressed disappointment at the outcome of the game. He said that he needed to do something about his leaky defence because his team keeps on losing games in the last quarter of the match.

He also said although they were losing, his team has the potential to win games but lacks confidence. “We have scored five goals in three matches but we end up losing games, and this shows that we do not have any problems going forward but we need to work on our defence,” said Kowa.

He said his boys were in control of the game in the first half and the first quarter of the second half, but lost it towards the end of the game. Meanwhile coach Alten Mosenki of Motlakase said he was happy with the outcome of the game.

He said he thought they were on the brink of losing the game until he realised that Ecco’s defence was sluggish and instructed his boys to go on an all out attack.

He said he piled more pressure on the Francistown side and changed the tempo of the game. He said the last goal through a penalty was a bonus for his side.

In other encounters that took place over the weekend, BR Highlander surprised many football fans by walloping premier league giants Extension Gunner 2-1. In the Selebi Phikwe derby, Nico United emerged victories over FC Satmos with 1-0 score.

Coach Kenneth Mogae of Nico admitted that the encounter was tough, but said he was glad that he managed to win the game. Satmos assistant coach Kgosiitsile Jacob expressed concern that they lost, but said there was still room to make improvements.

He said since players such as Mguni Sibanda and Patrick Kaunda have not been replaced there was still a gap to fill. However, he promised that he will strive to do better in their next encounter. Ends
