Super Tyres donates to trust

21 Aug 2014

Super Tyres has donated 50 blankets, 50 chairs and 24 footballs to the Presidential Charity Trust.

Receiving the donation on August 20, the senior private secretary to the President, Brigadier George Tlhalerwa said the Office of the President appreciated the donations from individuals, business sector and the community at large, more especially those targeting vulnerable people in the communities or the needy.

The needy, Brigadier Tlhalerwa said, “sometimes find themselves in the most precarious of situations, not knowing where the next meal will come from, sometimes they do not even know whether they are going to sleep under a tree or under a plastic cover.”

Therefore, he said it was commendable to “continuously see people coming forward donating money to build houses, bringing in blankets to provide comfort, more especially in our treacherous weather.”

Some people, he said saw a gesture of donating a blanket as a silly token, but, “it is not only about warmth, it is also about health. People don’t see blankets as a contributor to health.

But, if you get cold you are going to have a cold or flu. And if you have a cold or flu for the next three days you are not productive.

And if you are not productive, you are already in a situation where you can’t fend for yourself and you lose three days of full activity that you could have spent generating some of the things that you could help yourself with.”

For that reason, the donations are very important and critical, as they make a difference in the lives of Batswana, he said.

The footballs, Brigadier Tlhalerwa said were also a good donation as they help to create a sense of team work amongst children.

Football games also keep children healthy, as healthy bodies subscribe to healthy minds.

Super Tyres sales director, Mr Avi Ruprah said his company found it necessary to donate to the Presidential Charity Trust after it was enlightened about President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s charity work around the country.

Mr Ruprah said they were impressed and motivated by the gesture and wanted to also play a role in contributing towards helping the needy.

“We really wanted to do it through the Office of the President, because the President is very much involved with the community and charity.

And we found it to be the best way of helping the community as a whole in the country,” he said. ENDS
