Shakawe students re-admitted

Following government’s decision to re-admit Shakawe Senior Secondary School students to re-sit for their BGCSE, students have been enrolled back into the 2014/15 mainstream.
A press release from the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) stated that students were expected to report for form four for only one term at the beginning of term three on September 2 at Madiba, Good Hope, Maun, Ghanzi and Shakawe senior secondary schools.
It stated that the learners had been repeating their BGCSE through Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning. The principal public relations officer at MoESD, Mr Silas Sehularo said in an interview that the decision to admit them at different schools was reached after considering students’ subject combinations.
He said subject combinations varied per school, hence the decision to re-admit them where their chosen subjects were offered. Mr Sehularo said students were undergoing a week-long guidance and counseling session to assist them to cope with the challenges ahead of them.
The Shakawe students who obtained 36 points and above are informed to contact the ministry in their respective regions to indicate where they have secured tertiary placement.
“If any of them has not progressed for tertiary level but are interested to do so, they should immediately notify their regional offices through application stating their preferred tertiary institution and programme of study.”
The ministry took the decision to give the students a special dispensation for re-admission based on the poor results obtained by the students due to challenges that affected them along with their institution.
Students were supposed to have started school in January 2012 at Shakawe School, but there was a delay due to defects that surrounded the construction of the school.
In the process, students lost a lot of time and were later admitted at Maun Senior Secondary School. Ends
