The Localisation Policy as set out under the Revised National Policy on Incomes, Employment, Prices and profits of 2005 is still in force.
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Peter Siele told Parliament that the Localisation Policy does apply to the private sector.
He said the total number of drivers at Petrologistics is 41, and a total of 33 are Batswana, while there are six Zimbabweans and one Kenyan and Zambian respectively.
He said Pioneer Transport Company has 13 drivers, two being Batswana, nine Zimbabweans and One Zambian and Malawian respectively.
Mr Siele said the management of Pioneer Transport has been requested to prepare and submit a Training and Localization Programme to the Commissioner of Labour and Social Security for the purpose of monitoring the localization of the non-citizen held positions in the company.
Mr Siele was answering questions from Francistown South MP, Wynter Mmolotsi on behalf of labour and home affairs minister. Mr Mmolotsi wanted to know whether the Localisation Policy was still in force and whether it applies to the private sector.
He also wanted the minister to state the number of citizen and foreign drivers respectively at Petrologistics and Pioneer Transport Company in Francistown. ENDS
