Clinics construction deferred

03 Aug 2014

Jamataka and Mafungo-Hubona villages qualify to have health posts, based on their populations.

However, the construction and or upgrading of health facilities including the two villages as well as those planned for in the National Development Plan 10 have been deferred due to financial constraints.
Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Gloria Somolekae told Parliament that funds permitting all deferred and priority projects such as upgrading of health posts into clinics will be re-prioritised.

She said she has not yet visited the villages, but said plans were underway to have senior staff from the District Health Management Team visit before the end of August 2014.
Dr Somolekae noted it was important to highlight that health care workers from the ministry do visit the villages on a monthly basis to conduct mobile outreach services.

Dr Somolekae said during each visit an average of 25 to 30 patients is attended to while 80 to 90 children are also attended in the Child Welfare Clinics.

She was answering Tonota North MP, Fidelis Molao who had asked if the ministry will make the provision or construction of the Jamataka and Mafungo-Hubona clinics a priority in the near future given the critical need of the facilities in the two villages and their distances to the nearest facilities and that they are fully recognized stand-alone villages.

Mr Molao also asked whether senior ministry staff have ever visited the villages to assess the situation. ENDS
