SRCs learn responsibilities
31 Jul 2014
Members of Student Representative Councils (SRCs) from primary and junior secondary schools gathered at Liswani Junior Secondary School recently to learn on their key responsibilities and leadership roles involved in representing students.
Mr Katlego Molete, a peer education programme coordinator at Chobe Regional Operations said the SRC members were elected from their respective schools by students in April, this year.
The launching of the newly formed SRCs, he said, is an initiative aimed at involving students in issues affecting their academic life to instill a sense of relatedness in learning and motivate them to achieve academic exellence.
Mr Molete also said SRCs were launched to sensitise members on roles of education, role clarities, academic plan welfare support system through clubs to life skills.
As a measure to project student voices on matters affecting their education, Mr Molete said Chobe Regional Operations introduced SRCs in all of their schools.
This was a deliberate move to instill a sense of belonging and for the learners to own up to their education performance.
He said the formation of the SRCs would help in the implementation of the regional office strategies such as ‘study for life group’ aimed to improve performance and promote the culture of reading and extrinsic motivation toward learning.
The club will function under the portofolio of Minister of Academics as the overseer and coordination and support will be from the Regional Office and teachers.
For his part, Liswani Junior Secondary School head, Mr Nelson Litiho urged the students’ representatives to work hard and take their responsibilities seriously. ENDS
