31 Jul 2014

Exhibitors at the Serowe Trade Fair are happy despite the low turnout of people at the event as they managed to market their products and services.

In an interview, Mr Galefele Lentswe who specialises in leather works said he was glad to have been part of the fair. Mr Lentswe said his main objective was to market his products and the few that attended the show showed appreciation of his products. Mr Lentswe, who was funded by the Department of Youth, makes leather sandals, bags and belts.

He said though it was his first time at the fair, he got more than he bargained for as he also got the opportunity to share ideas with others doing the same business.

Sharing the same sentiments, from Serowe, Ms Mariah James said she was happy about sharing ideas with fellow leather works business people.

Ms James specialises in making leather cushions, traditional attires’, mats and leather jackets.
She indicated that she was funded by Gender Affairs department through the poverty eradication initiative.
She explained that it is through fairs like this that they have the opportunity to share ideas and challenges and at the same time market their products.

Ms James applauded government for these initiatives as they are able to fend for their families and create employment for others.
She said that she started her business in 2012 and she was happy that her business is growing and she is able to market her products to people through events like the fair.

From Lecheng, Mr Molaakgosi Marekwa said he was glad that he was able to come and exhibit his products.
Mr Marekwa of Marekwa Investments speciaises in making clay flower pots, which he said has managed to create employment for two young people.

He said it was his first time to attend or take his products to a fair, but was happy with the response he got from those who attended. He appealed to Batswana to support their businesses so that they grow, stating further that he was certain that the few that attended got his contacts and will surely come to buy his products.

Botswana Communication Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) officer, Mr James Mooketsi said he was also happy that they came to the fair as they managed to educate people about the organisation.
Mr Mooketsi stated that BOCRA monitors the quality of service provided by telecommunication companies and licensees, and by attending such fairs, they were taking their services to the people.

He explained that one of their objectives was to educate people how to go on about lodging complaints about their services providers and also let people know where they are located.
He said a lot of people do not know that they are the same as the Botswana Telecommunication Authority (BTA) which has always been there.
