Government knuckles down
27 Jul 2014
Government has started the process of infrastructure development as the economy is showing signs of resuscitation.
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama said this when addressing a kgotla at Mmopane in Kweneng District over the weekend.
President Khama said, for some time, the country was choked by the economic recession that hit the world. This resulted in the shelving of a number of development projects.
“But I am happy to announce that our economy is improving hence we just started the backlog eradication programme on infrastructure,” he said. Through the programme, construction of classrooms and teachers’ houses would be fast-tracked to ease provision of education
The President was responding to Kgosi Moarabi Manthe who had complained that their only primary school, Tau Manthe, was struggling as eight classes were taught under trees owing to shortage of classrooms.
President Khama also donated blankets to the elderly in the village before serving them dinner. “We need to appreciate our elders for the good things they do for us, and that is why I have come here to give them gifts,” he said.
Among other gifts, President Khama donated bibles to the Christian fraternity, solar powered lights to the Village Development Committee and a camp chair to Kgosi Manthe.
President Khama was accompanied by Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Gloria Somolekae, acting Minister of Youth Sport and Culture, Mr Vincent Seretse and the area MP, Mr Mmoloki Raletobana. ENDS
