Can manufacturers conforms to standards
24 Jul 2014
Can Manufacturers Company intends to manufacture and distribute high quality, environmentally friendly cans to control food hazards and assure users that their cans pose no threat to their health.
Speaking at the ISO 22000:2005 certification handing-over ceremony recently, the chief executive officer of DQS-UL South Africa, Mr Francois Lambuschagne, said certification was proof of conforming to standards to assure consumers that a product was of high quality and posed no threat to health.
Mr Lambuschagne said organisations should develop and nurture “customer trust” as it was imperative to drive the organisation to achieve a degree of success. However, he said, organisations must fulfil a large number of diverse requirements, some prescribed by law others by their customers.
He said organisations should form basis of operations such as product conformity, inspection of the product and finally certification management systems to help them identify evident management systems that could be used to help them provide safe products based on the corresponding regulations.
Mr Webster Muswehaurari, the general manager of Can Manufacturers Company, said organisations participating in food industries must be vigilant in their attempts to supply safe quality products to the market place.
Mr Muswehaurari said it was not long ago that the company was accredited with HACCP, and 2014 marked another milestone when it was accredited with 22000:2005 certification by the accrediting body DQS-UL South Africa for being the best in manufacturing cans that pose no threat to public health.
He said ISO 22000:2005 certification was envisaged as a preventive approach for assuring food safety, mostly in the food industries.
The certification helped identify potential food safety hazards so that key actions known as critical control points could be taken to reduce the risk of hazards: physical, chemical or biological.
He said the certification would also enable the company to stay abreast with advances in global food safety management standards. ENDS
