MVA to participate at Serowe District show

Serowe Agriculture Show will this year transform into Serowe District Trade Fair and Exhibition in order to cater for activities outside agriculture, organising committee members have vowed.
For the first time since its inception, the Serowe District agriculture show will see Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund partaking in the proceedings to educate the public about road safety.
The MVA, according to the orgainising committee chairman, Mr Kago Makhulela, and the secretary, Mr Otaathusa Maruping, will be allocated a full football pitch to demonstrate safer ways of using the road.
The MVA has become an integral part of district shows countrywide through sponsorship and road safety campaigns.
Various businesses will be invited to showcase at the July 25 trade and exhibition show for marketing, networking and benchmarking. The trade fair and exhibition will also give consumer choice shopping. Poverty eradication beneficiaries will also have the opportunity to market their products under a special dispensation where two tents will be available for free.
The Serowe District Trade Fair and Exhibition committee says it is determined to add vibrancy to the show. The committee also commits itself to resuscitating Serowe to its former self by transforming the Bangwato village into an entertainment hub -- among a host of other planned changes.
“We simply want the people to take pride in Serowe and ensure that our people do not travel long distances to enjoy the shows they could be enjoying here at home,” Mr Makhulela said.
Held under the theme: “Empowering youths through community projects and events” , the committee aims to attract youths into the trade fair and exhibitions through organised activities and the re-introduction of soccer games. Serowe All Coaches will showcase their yesteryear skills against Sjapi Masters in a curtain-raiser before newly promoted first division north outfit Tsabothe test their mettle against another first division contestant Green Lovers.
Also in the pipelines will be a debating session for schools in conjuction with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development. Students will showcase their debating prowess on the topic to be extracted from the exhibitions theme.
The Letshego-sponsored horse racing which usually wraps up the show proceedings will also be renamed Serowe Spring Horse Racing. In November, the people of Serowe and neighbouring villages will be treated to some beef delicacies when the trade and exhibitions committee emulates Lobatse and Ghanzi to stage Serowe Meat Festival. Challenges include lack of sponsors and what lack of interest by civil servants to support the show committee. ENDS
