Youth business a must in Chobe
23 Jul 2014
The Chobe District Commissioner, Dr Themba Mmusi, says authorities in the district want to make it a model for benchmarking when it comes to youth businesses.
Speaking at a business awareness workshop in Kasane recently, Dr Mmusi said government had the mandate to empower Batswana youth through initiatives that are currently in place.
Dr Mmusi said this is being done through programmes such as Tirelo Setshaba and Young Farmers Fund (YFF) because the government wanted to improve the lives of the youth.
He encouraged the participants to be dedicated and committed to their businesses and to have general business skills such as record keeping when venturing into the business world.
He added that they should repay their loans so that the money could be used to finance business ventures by other youth.
Kgosi Moffat Mwezi, when welcoming participants to the workshop alerted them of their importance in society by virtue of being the youth.
He advised the youth to take up the government programmes for business and self-employment because the economy could not create jobs for everyone.
Kgosi Mwezi advised the young entrepreneurs never to be carried away by profit but invest some of it back into business. He congratulated the participants for their desire to venture into business at a young age.
Mr Pako Sikuku, the youth district coordinator, enlightened the participants on the objectives of the workshop, that is, to inform the budding entrepreneurs about the ways, rules and regulations that are in place to enable them when it comes to starting businesses.
The workshop was also intended to help the participants identify business ideas and opportunities as well as government initiatives that could help them start their own businesses.
Mr Sikuku said the workshop was also to equip young people with business skills for generation of quality business ideas and proposals, for ultimate submission to the Youth Development. ENDS
