Tubu survives on government programmes

The deputy chairperson of Tubu Village Development Committee Mr Odirile Boitshwarelo, has said government programmes are the only source of employment in their village.
Interviewed by BOPA recently, Mr Boitshwarelo said most of the resident relied on subsistence crop cultivation and livestock rearing.
Mr Boitshwarelo said government’s various programmes such as Ipelegeng, Botswana National Service Programme (BNSP), police and wildlife volunteers also benefited the residents.
Kgosi Keitseng Motshidiemang of Tubu added that he was impressed that the government’s assistance programmes yielded results. clinic, the primary school and the surrounding environment.
The village won position one as the cleanest one in the Okavango Sub-District.
Kgosi Motshidiemang applauded the newly established Tirelo Setshaba whose participants eased shortage of civil servants in Tubu, with four of them serving at the primary school, kgotla, clinic and social work office.
He said the crime rate was low as the police volunteers patrol the village day and night and also enforced operational times at alcohol outlets, which were few in Tubu.
He added that wildlife volunteers helped reduce poaching
A Tirelo Setshaba participant who serve at the clinic, Mr Otlhokomeleng Boitshwarelo, said he was happy with the programme as he acquired health care skills.
He said he has relieved the only nurse in the clinic who has been struggling. In the past, the residents used to queue for a long time, waiting for the nurse.
The situation has improved because he helps by taking temperature, blood pressure and weight.
He also helps the nurse with the child welfare clinic by weighing children and giving them their food rations.
He encouraged his peers to not dessert the programme as it is helpful in working for the nation and improving service delivery in their communities. ENDS
