Real estate businesses should register
23 Jul 2014
It is imperative that everyone who operates real estate business be registered with the Real Estate Institute of Botswana (REIB).
REIB president, Mr Moses Maruping told members of the institute that failure to register with the institute constitutes illegal operation of business in the country and calls for legal action to be taken against such culprits.
Mr Maruping said it was also very important that members who have registered do operate within the legal frame work of the institute.
This, he said, when launching the Code of Ethics and Conduct guidelines, which he said should be a guiding principle for all members to operate within its parameters.
He stressed the need for the code of ethics and conduct guidelines to be followed as they represent the institution’s principles, values and behavior expected of members.
“The purpose of this code is to ensure that a high standard of personal and corporate responsibility by all members is maintained,” he said.
The code also calls for members to carry out their professional duties with honesty, competence, and in good faith without personal bias and in a manner in which upholds the values and reputation of the property and valuation profession.
Mr Maruping also launched the institute’s hand book, which carries the constitution, rules and regulations and valuation standards examinations guidelines.
The two documents, he said, would be improved with time as the institution grows. The launch also had the institute welcoming 35 newly admitted members to the Real Estate business operation.
The newly admitted members were advised to register with the Real Estate Agency Council as they could not operate without the Council’s approval. ENDS
