SDC prides in Mongala Mall
23 Jul 2014
Mongala mall in Kanye has not only changed the land scape of the village but contributes significantly to the economic development of the Southern District.
Speaking at a ceremony to welcome a delegation from the North West District Council (NWDC) recently, the Council’s Principal Physical Planner, Mr Vincent Kenosi said Time project paid the council a ground lease rental based on the gross rental paid by the tenants for a period of 45 years.
During the construction of the mall, he said, over 100 people were employed adding that more were now employed after the completion of the project.
He said Mongala mall offered quality goods for Kanye region that were offered elsewhere before.
According to Mr Kenosi, Mongala mall was the only mall of its kind in the country operating hand in hand with formalised former informal traders.
Named after Mongala kgotla, the mall is a 7000m2 U-shaped shopping complex built at a cost of approximately P60 million consisting of 28 shops. The NWDC delegation was in Kanye for a benchmarking exercise more specifically to learn, share and exchange ideas on issues pertaining to socio-economic development. ENDS
