Backlog eradication depends on funds

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Olebile Gaborone has told parliament that the implementation of the backlog eradication programme is dependent on the availability of funds.

Mr Gaborone said  for 2014/15 Central District Council received funds to implement their prioritized backlog eradication programme in some areas and Tonota North has not benefited.


Mr Gaborone said efforts which are underway during the current financial year to improve facilities at some schools in the constituency using Ipelegeng funds include construction of a 1x3 classroom block in Jamataka Primary School which has not yet started.


He also said it includes completion of an LA2 house which is at 90 per cent complete and extension of a kitchen storeroom of which extension of existing facility has not yet started.


He said in Mafungo/ Hubona Primary School a classroom has been recently completed and occupied and 1x4 school toilet has not yet started and 1xLA2 house which is 90 per cent complete.


In Makobo Primary School, completion of a reading room is 95 per cent complete.


Further, Mr Gaborone stated that the ministry through CDC will continue to prioritise schools including those in Tonota North under the backlog eradication programme, subject to availability of the requisite funding.


MP for Tonota North Mr Fidelis Molao had asked him to state the number of primary schools in Tonota North constituency which will benefit from the backlog eradication programme during the financial year 2014/2015 as pronounced by His Excellency the President in the State of the Nation address of 2013.
