Police charge illegal women traders

Maun police have charged about 21 women for illegal trading on tobacco during a police raid in the Maun mall on Friday (July 18). Station commander, Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse confirmed in an interview that they found big bags containing different boxes and plastics of illegal tobacco.
All the women paid P200 each for admission of guilty.Supt Badumetse said they suspect the tobacco was coming from some neighbouring countries.
On another issue, police are investigating an incident in which a middle aged man allegedly raped his 63-year-old aunt at Samedupi settlement in Maun on Saturday July 19. The police chief said the duo who was from Maun to a farm in the area alighted from a vehicle at one stop in Samedupi and walked towards the farm at around 4:30 pm.
The suspect is said to have told his aunt that he wants to have sex with her and she refused because they are related. He said the suspect insisted and threatened his aunt with a knife telling her that, “if you do not have sex with me, I kill you and commit suicide.”
Supt Badumetse said the suspect then dragged the woman into the bush where he allegedly raped her before running away.
Police have embarked on a massive hunt for the culprit.Meanwhile, a middle aged man of Morotsha cattle post, near Shorobe village is assisting Maun police in probing the murder of a 26-year-old man of the same area.
Supt Badumetse said the incident took place at a drinking spot. He said the deceased had a misunderstanding with another man over a cigarette.
He said the two fought and the suspect intervened and managed to separate them,. However, after some few minutes, the suspect attacked the deceased and stabbed him with a knife .
He said the deceased was certified dead on arrival at Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital.
Still on Saturday July 19, deputy officer commanding, superintendent John Kelebeng said three people died 20km from Gweta after the vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road before rolling over several times leaving two passengers dead on the spot while the third one died at Gweta Primary Hospital.
He said the Toyota Hilux 2.7 which had three passengers including the driver was heading for Nata from Maun and they suspect that the driver lost control of the vehicle. ENDS
