Radio vital tool of communication - Corea
17 Jul 2014
Radio is a vital tool of communication that is easy to listen to and can be understood by people of all ages, according to the director general of the National Strategy Office.
Speaking at a community service day at Ralekgetho in the Moshupa Sub-district on July 12, Mr Uttum Corea said radio was a window through which people saw the world and it was a mirror that reflected people’s lives back to them.
Mr Corea said radio was even more important for old generation to listen to news and hear about government programmes that pertained to their welfare.
The National Strategy Office donated 22 radio sets to the elderly so that they would be up to date with issues of concern to them and to the nation.
He said the National Strategy Office was motivated by the exemplary leadership of Botswana who valued philanthropy. The office had been able to establish that there was a need in Ralekgetho.
He quoted Jesus’ two main commandments: “Love your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” The second commandment goes: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”
He said these two commandments inspired his office to come up with a package that could benefit the less privileged Batswana.
Mr Corea said the community service day in Ralekgetho was a good exercise for his staff because they would develop a habit of being compassionate and helping needy people and enjoy the blessings of giving. He called on all Batswana to develop a spirit of philanthropy.
The National Strategy Office also donated winter clothes to 49 children aged between one and two.
The community service day work included painting the kgotla offices and cleaning the yard of an elderly person as well as giving her two comforters to cushion the chilly weather. ENDS
