Former Maru-a-pula students make a difference8232

Two former students of Maru-a-pula school have formed a club which aims at inculcating the spirit of visionary leadership among the students.

The two, Mr Seabbelo John and Ms Mercy Radithupa who are IGCSE graduates and top achievers formed the club dubbed The Visionaires Club.

Mr John and Ms Radithupa who will be going out for further studies in the United States said they wanted to leave something behind to benefit students before their August departure.

Among others, the club would create opportunities for students to come up with programmes that will benefit the communities.

Students at Maru-a-pula school were encouraged to engage in community service activities which in turn would groom them to be better leaders of tomorrow.

The club also aimed at promoting all the pillars of Vision 2016 even beyond the target year hence the slogan: Young nation builders.

They said The Visionaires was a made up name meaning “people rich with visions’’ because the duo believed that the usual visionary was an understatement.

The club started off with 10 students and now the membership stood at 22 members. The club would select one Vision 2016 pillar at a time and organise activities to promote it.

It started with the first pillar of an educated and informed nation and organised activities around it. The two former students felt that the Vision Council was doing a tremendous job and as such needed support.

The Visionaires Club raised awareness in the school by placing themed posters around the campus to reach to people and the club also teaches foreign teachers and students how to speak Setswana.

Recently The Visionaires Club invited students from Maoka and Ngwaketse Junior secondary schools for study skills workshop that took place at Maru-a-pula school.

During the workshop the students were taught study skills and were motivated by speakers from some Top Achievers.

Mr John and Ms Radithupa said the club would continue to conduct such workshops with more schools and also establish the service club in other schools.

The two former students extended their gratitude to Maru-a-pula school and teachers Ms Mercy Erbyn and Ms Bogodile Matlhape-Moeng, and the Vision 2016 council Public Relations Officer Mr Obakeng Kwenantsi for their support towards their initiative.

They urged the nation to uphold the Vision 2016 pillars and carry the mission beyond as well as appealing for support to grow their club. ENDS
