Utilise government initiatives - Monyatsi

Kgosi Batshani Monyatsi of Nswazwi has urged residents of his village to make use of the government’s initiative of taking services to the people by different departments.
He highlighted recently that there were concerns raised by the public during the President’s kgotla meetings that they were not receiving services properly at offices with some ending up giving up on seeking help.
Kgosi Monyatsi noted it was therefore imperative for people to come in numbers and make inquiries on issues which concerns them regarding particular service providers or departments.
He added that people often complained about long queues at offices, with some saying that they did not have funds to travel to service centres. “Take advantage of their presence in the village to be assisted in all your needs from their offices,” he stressed.
Sharing similar sentiments, assistant council secretary for Tutume sub-council, Ms Kene Mololwane added that there are many changes, which have taken place at the council that some people are not aware of.
She said by visiting the villages, they want to share such information with people so that they do not feel misinformed when they make inquiries and told to go somewhere.
Ms Mololwane mentioned that some people are still not aware that all water services have been relocated to Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) while Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) processing was now with Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC).
She explained that although the assessment is still being done at council, the process of constructing the SHHA house is done at BHC. She emphasized that public officers are there to bring services to the people and it is disappointing if the public decide not to come.
She added that through such meetings, they are informed about government programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people.
Furthermore, she noted that poverty eradication programmes are there for the people to make use of to create employment for themselves and others because the government cannot afford to feed all in need through the food basket.
“All information regarding poverty eradication projects is disseminated at platforms like these,” she said. She urged them to reduce reliance on the Ipelegeng programme as their main source of employment, but instead should get funding to set up businesses, which will earn them a living. ENDS
